Highlands Design Collective Handmade Christmas Fair 2011

The Christmas Fair brought together a group of very talented designers who are a joy to be with and contributed so much warmth and hospitality to this event making it a very special day for all in attendance.

A beautiful sunny day provided the perfect backdrop at the new St Thomas Aquinas hall to share our love of handmade with our community in the Southern Highlands and our visitors from Sydney, Wollongong, Canberra and beyond!

The gold coin donations and raffles raised $700 for 'Bridges for Learning' an amazing collection for such a worthy organisation; this will go to providing valuable education resources to many families in the Southern Highlands.

Please join us over the forthcoming week as we showcase more of this wonderful event celebrating country creativity at our Christmas Fair.

For us, we rode a wave of gratitude, laughter & love...start to finish.

Aprons for all ages and other crafty things...

I grew up in the Highlands. Moved to the city like everyone does and raced back 10 years later to start a family and share with them the highlands way of life. Another 10 years and four kids later (that's enough isn't it?) I found myself needing to be more productive, go figure...

It all started with an idea that I would make a couple of aprons for the kids preschool. Next thing you know I have made over a hundred and in a constant search for new fabric designs! My aprons are all easy clean vinyl, oil cloth or plastic coated fabric (all give the same result). I make aprons for children and adults and have been dabbling in other ways to use this type of fabric. I have done cases in all sizes and now working on some versitile decorations that can be used on the Christmas tree or as an identity tag on the kids school bags...

Our Fundraiser - Bridges for Learning

The Importance of Early Childhood Intervention Services

About 10% of children in the Southern Highlands have special needs, which take many forms from delayed developmental to learning disabilities. For these children, early intervention with a range of therapies and services, makes all the difference. Access to quality early intervention helps these children look forward to a better, happier future. A positive long-term prognosis and the ability to live independently are directly linked to the early intervention these children and their families receive.
Research shows that early childhood intervention can;
  1. Significantly improve the development and functioning of children with disabilities and developmental delays.
  2. Make a substantial difference to the wellbeing of children and their families.
  3. Reduce both the child’s and the family’s dependence on costly specialised services later in life.
We also know it gives choices and choices strengthen hope.
Early childhood intervention is good for children.
